Winter Auction 2012, Project 143 Update

Hello everyone! Jared here, it’s crazy to think that it’s almost December already! Prepare for the Mayan prophecy! (well, okay, not really. Since the Mayans didn’t account for Leap Year, the end of the world should have been nine months ago. Oops.)

I wanted to give everyone an update on what we’ve been up to, in addition to the information on our annual winter auction. I wanted to write this particular blog because this auction is a very special one to me.

Over the past few years, I have had the amazing opportunity to meet and work with some of the most talented, hardworking and inspiring bands in show business. This year was a very big one for Project 143. One of the most prominent ways that I will try to get a band involved with Project 143 is to have them donate some merchandise. Usually a band will donate a few shirts, posters, or CDs (sometimes all three). We reserve the majority of the merchandise donation for any requests or letters we receive from patients, and then we’ll save one or two of those items for use in our winter auction. (For example, let’s say that All Time Low donated five t-shirts to us from one of their tours. We would save four of these specifically for patient requests, and set aside one for an auction purpose. Pretty straight forward.)

We have accumulated a mass amount of merchandise from many artists throughout the throughout the past three to four years. While I have saved all of this merchandise and set it aside specifically for fulfilling patient requests, we have learned that most of the patient requests we’ve received have been more towards artists that we are still trying to establish a connection with, such as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Lil’ Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, etc. We have been able to use some of this merchandise for requests, but a majority of it has unfortunately been sitting here and collecting dust. This is where you, our supporters, come in.

We have decided that we are going to auction off a majority of our inventory of autographed merchandise. We are going to let the fans of the music and supporters of this organization bid on some very exclusive and amazing items we received over these past few years. We believe this will put this merchandise to much better use than just sitting around and not going to anyone. The money generated from this auction will be able to help us fulfill many more patient requests for artists that we are still working to reach out to (i.e., purchasing tickets for patients to attend a Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift concert, purchasing V.I.P. passes for patients to meet these artists, etc.)

I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to every single band, artist, business person, crew member, fan and supporter that has taken the time to help out Project 143 since our inception. It’s because of you that we are still standing and we can’t thank you enough.

Vans Warped Tour kicks off in five days!

Project 143 will have a tent out at the Vans Warped Tour this summer for three weeks!

We will be on the tour from 6/16 to 6/27, and 7/30 to 8/5. Come stop by our tent for merch, participate in some awesome campaigns that we are holding, and check out our autograph signings!

"Music Inspires" Campaign Announcement!

Hello!

It’s clearly been awhile since we’ve written here! But we have good news! It’s time for us to announce our campaign!

I would personally like to give an explanation as to why it has taken us so long to announce our campaign. If you have been following us on Facebook, you will notice that we were supposed to announce our campaign a couple days ago! I recently began college, so things have been crazy in terms of getting organized with both school work and Project 143 work. However, I have finally gotten everything organized, and we are ready to announce this!

The campaign is entitled “Music Inspires”. It is a video series that features artists and bands speaking about the music that has inspired them, or helped them through a difficult time in their life. Before we left for our second leg of Warped Tour, a national study was released showing that music therapy has been proven to be an effective form of treatment for cancer patients. When we heard this, we decided to create a campaign based around the idea that music is such a moving and powerful thing.

Over the next few months, you will be seeing videos that we compiled during the 2011 Vans Warped Tour, as well as footage from various upcoming fall tours, featuring bands members and artists speaking about the music that inspires them.

The first video in the series will feature Spencer Chamberlain, lead vocalist of Underoath. The campaign officially launches this Thursday, October 6th, so be sure to check out the video when it is posted! We are very excited for this campaign to launch, and we hope you are too!
